How platform fees work

July 12, 2026

To maintain this platform and provide features such as payment splitting, professional tools and customer support we charge a 5% fee at checkout, in addition to a mandatory $0.30-$0.60 cents in card processing costs charged to us by our merchant, Stripe.

What you see at checkout

Our fees are the lowest in the industry and are only charged to pet owners when a booking is paid for their pet. Our fee, as well as any other fees charged by the business (such as late/early arrival charges and addon's) are always disclosed prior to making a payment.

Our fees are non-refundable even if your reservation is cancelled or refunded by the business you originally booked with. If you choose to split your payment, our fees are typically charged upfront on the first payment, and are not split between the two charges.

The platform fee is shown in the "Reservation details" side panel. Expand "Reservation total" to see the breakdown

On most reservations, the platform fee line is labeled "Platform fee" in your payment summary. This 5% fee includes:

  • 2.9% — Stripe fees for processing the card payment
  • $0.30-$0.60 — Stripe's additional fixed charge on each transaction (0.30 for a single charge, 0.60 if you split your payment).
  • 2.1% — Fee paid to Doggos.com for operating this platform

We are always looking for ways to lower our fees and pass these savings onto our users.

Deposit vs. Pay in full

Many stays are booked with a 50% deposit due at checkout. The remaining balance is charged automatically the day before your reservation date, using the same card as when you paid your initial deposit.

Because deposit bookings involve two separate card charges, the fixed processing cost is 60 cents (30 cents per charge). If you pay the full stay upfront in a single charge, the fixed processing cost is 30 cents.

If you'd like to pay the full stay upfront in a single charge, please reach out to the business you booked with prior to making a payment.

What about the rest of the reservation total?

Your reservation total is the amount set by the business for the stay, including nightly rates, add-on services, and charges from the business like early check-in, and any other options they have configured on their end. Nightly rates and other charges are set by the business and not by Doggos.com.

You can find their direct contact information in the email confirmation that was sent to you when you made your reservation.
