Boarding goes more smoothly when your pet arrives healthy, labeled, and with clear care instructions. These steps make drop-off easier for everyone.
Most facilities require up-to-date rabies, distemper, and bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines. Ask what paperwork they need and schedule the vet visit well before your trip so nothing is last-minute.
Bring your dog’s regular food in measured portions, any medications with written instructions, and a familiar blanket or toy if the facility allows them. Label everything with your name and your dog’s name.
If your dog has never boarded, book a daycare day or overnight trial first. Short practice stays reduce stress on longer trips and help you learn how your pet responds to the environment.
Include feeding times, walk or potty habits, favorite cues, and anything that calms or triggers your dog. Leave a reachable phone number and an emergency contact. A calm drop-off with a short goodbye and confident handoff helps your pet settle sooner than a long farewell.
